I received this news with great sadness. I met Mark in 2010 during the Africa & African Diaspora conference organized by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Howard. He was such a friendly person, well-versed in the field, and very dedicated to the profession. This is no doubt a great loss to Howard’s Sociology and Anthropology Department and the university as a whole. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. I pray that his family, colleagues, and friends that he left behind will have the strength to bear the loss. Adieu, Mark
